The primary footage in a video — the main subject or speaker — that carries the core narrative.
A-roll is the main footage: the presenter talking, the interview, the central take that drives the story. It's the backbone a clip is built around, as opposed to the supplementary shots layered over it.
In short-form, a talking-head or presenter take is usually the A-roll, with B-roll cut in for visual variety.
